It’s that time of year!
2018 is here and as I jump into another amazing year I wanted to go back and show you the best moments from 2017. This blog post is inspired by Instagram’s Best Nine of 2017 and will include some of my favourite images from weddings, elopements, travel and couple sessions from 2017. Unfortunately I don’t have room to show you everything, but I am so thankful for such an amazing year! All my love goes to each and every one of the wonderful couples I met, the love I witnessed and the new places I got to explore this year. I hope you enjoy scrolling through! I’ll tell you a little bit about each wedding, elopement and adventure session as we go as well as links to vendors I worked with and loved. Some of these sessions and weddings haven’t even been released yet so please enjoy the sneak peaks!
January 2017 had me sunbathing on the white sand beaches of the Mayan Riviera with Courtney, Dominik and 68 of their closest friends and family members. I felt so lucky to be chosen to go with this group of people to Mexico, a country I hadn’t been to before. Cenotes, ruins and MARGARITAS! The wedding itself was beautiful, of course, on the beach in front of the Grand Sunset Princess Resort, full of love with all their friends and family watching and the night ended with an epic dance battle - that’s how you know you did your wedding right. Haha! I had such a great time with these two!
February was a whirlwind, starting with a trip to Vegas. 21 hours. That was how much time I had in Vegas! It was so quick, there was no time to even sleep, but I hear that is how Vegas is supposed to be anyways. Even in the short time, I met the most amazing people on this trip, took so many boudoir photos in the salt flats and at the Cosmopolitan Hotel with Sin City Curves, did an engagement session for Ashlee and Luke!
I even had the opportunity to have some of my own boudoir photos taken by the amazing Teri Hofford and Angelina McDonald. If you’re in Winnipeg Manitoba or Santa Maria, CA definitely check out either of these boss babes!
From the desolate salt flats outside of Vegas directly to the snowy mountains caps of the Rocky Mountains, Canmore stole my heart in the winter. Before their dusk ceremony, we whisked the couple and their bridal party off during the day to capture these images in front of The Three Sisters and on Mnt Norquay (where we were hit by a snow-nado!!) Jacques and Candace said their I Do’s at twilight outside in the cold, where our eyelashes were freezing together and the smoke of the fire was swirling amongst us.
Check out these local vendors if you are planning a Canmore wedding! Definitely try their honey bourbon chicken if you go to Bear and Bison Inn – I could not stop eating it. It was a little embarrassing to be honest.
From finding waterfalls to walking high on bridges in the cloud forest to riding the waves at Lolla’s Beach, Costa Rica was the vacation I needed!
I even managed to meet a few strangers on the beach that I asked to modelled for me – which it honestly didn’t even cross my mind until I was walking home from our session that I had gotten into a car full of strangers and let them take me to an unknown beach in a foreign country. Not something I necessarily recommend to people, but I never felt unsafe or awkward for a moment! Call it the adventurer in me.
In March I met the most amazing group of vendors at the Bridal Show Soirée. We all came together the next day to create something beautiful in the studio space. This stunning spring bridal was perfect in every way! I highly recommend taking a look at all the vendors for your wedding day needs.
April 1st played a little joke on me this year! All the planning in the world for a spring bridal session in the mountains came to a halt when a blizzard rolled in last minute! Being a photographer means being flexible, and luckily my team was amazing and pulled through as well! This winter bridal session in the heart of the Jasper National Park definitely had to be on my list of the best of the best! Jasper National Park has a special place in my heart because I spent the majority of my childhood hiking and exploring these mountains and lakes and forests. It’s one of my favourite places in the world. Together with a dream team of vendors we made beautiful magic, highlighting our unpredictable mountain weather. If you’re planning a wedding near Jasper, do yourself a favour and check out these amazing vendors.
Back to the studio we go with this brunch bridal session featuring so many amazing local wedding vendors. I am including a list of them all below, so you can access them to plan your own wedding! Each and every vendor in the shoot was amazing and worked together to make something so beautiful it was actually featured in a local wedding magazine! Click here to see!
I know this looks like it could be an elopement but it’s actually an engagement session. Ashley was so stunning in her dress and hair, with florals that spoke to every glitter lovers heart, that she did look like a bride. A sunrise session, we explored the Devon Valley together, getting into more than one sticky spot. Such a fun couple, their real wedding is on this list too.
A little urban was mixed into the portfolio with this local engagement in Edmonton and I absolutely LOVED it.. Sweet Angie and her beau Georgie asked me to photograph them at the lake where he proposed to her, then we made it downtown in time to see the sunset at the High Level Bridge. I wish these two the best!! They are currently planning their destination wedding and I couldn’t be more excited for them!
May brought me to this perfect in-home session - and oh, how I adore in home sessions! TC and Joben’s session was SO fun. They read the Sunday paper, we jumped on the bed, there was a pillow fight and Dobby their house elf (I mean puppy!) even made an appearance! It was for sure a memorable part of my 2017 and let me use my polaroid camera. One of my favourite parts of my job is getting to see who my couples are, their genuine selves. It gives me such a thrill to witness their vulnerable and awesome selves. I truly wish more couples would book in home sessions; it is such a great way to connect and rekindle. PS. TC and Joben are currently planning their wedding and I like to think this sessions’ raw love played a small part in it
June was so busy with sessions! This styled shoot at Canyon Ski Resort was so dreamy and everything I needed to inspire me for weddings this season. If you are planning a wedding in Central Alberta, I highly recommend checking out any of these vendors!

Elk Island National Park is one of the biggest natural spaces nearby and I was lucky to spend a warm afternoon there this summer with some of the best in the industry.
What better way to arrive at your elopement than in a private business jet? The session was inspired by the Alberta Aviation Museum and the unique history a venue like a museum can bring to your elopement day. This was also my first major publication, being featured in Rocky Mountain Brides and Style Inspired Weddings.
July!! Oh July… I lucked out in being asked to second shoot for Beth from ENV Photography and so I spent Canada Day at Kickinghorse Resort - can you believe you can get married on the top of the world like this? WOW! Becky and Dave's wedding definitely made my top list of the year, from getting ready at their family condo with the cutest puppies, to exploring the lakes around town to their first dance, under the setting sun. If you're planning a wedding at the Top of the World, please let me know! I would love to document it for you!
Before we left for home, we made 2 stops! First was to Takakkaw Falls by Field BC, in Yoho National Park with Emily and Drake, after their elopement in Golden! And second was to Moraine Lake for a sunset anniversary with a lovely couple visiting from Texas, USA.
This whole weekend was such a treat for me. My heart is happiest and most at home in the mountains so this definitely makes it to my favourites list - also the last image you may recognize from my personal greeting cards! Serious love for these sessions.
There is something really special about the Cliffs of Moher that you won't understand unless you've been to before! From their breath taking views, to the iconic greens of Ireland, nothing quite competes with them. Except for maybe Savannah and Wayland's love for each other during their anniversary session - these images take me back instantly to the wind whipping our hair and clothes around us, and these two sharing their private, soft moments. It makes me weak in the knees. Click here to see the feature on Wandering Photographers.
This bridal session was inspired by the 18th century gown shipped all the way to Ireland for this session special by Maureen Flynn Luther (owner and boss-babe of House of Flynn and the House of Flynn Ireland Workshop), and was just an incredible experience. In the heart of Galway, this only amplified my love for the city! I spent over 80% of my time in the Galway area, while in Ireland! I just couldn't bring myself to leave!
This styled elopement in the private gardens of Ross Castle was one of my favourite sessions in the House Of Flynn Workshop. So much work was put into place for this session by all the staff members, and even the owners of Ross Castle graciously allowed us to stay in their home for 3 nights! We were even gifted a bouquet to use for our shoot out of the wildflowers grown in the grounds. It was such a special thing to be part of.
When someone says "hey, do you want to shoot a Lord Of The Rings inspired Elven Wedding in a dark forest by a waterfall in Ireland?" always say "YES!" Savannah and the House of Flynn did such an amazing job styling this session, right down to an absolutely perfect wedding invitation set!
On my last day in Ireland, I opted to satiate my wanderlust spirit and jumped on a tour by Finn McCools Tours of Northern Ireland Game of Thrones Tour where I made some amazing lifelong friends in other solo travellers.
SNAP back to reality! Oops there goes gravity!
As promised! This glamorous garden wedding at the Oasis Centre in Edmonton still pulls at my heartstrings. I was only home a few days from Ireland before joining Ashley and Jarod and their closest friends and family. It was so heart warming to watch these two marry each other. And after all was said and done, there were many tear-jerking toasts given throughout the night. If there is one thing I learned from Ashley and her wedding, there is no such thing as too much sparkle! What an incredibly sweet couple they are and I wish them all the best in 2018!
August had me in Canmore at the Silvertip Resort for a Thursday wedding this year! I loved the chance to work with Tess Lucas Photography and Joseph Sim of Alexander Documentarian for Chelsey and Mike's wedding. With all the forest fire smoke from BC and as close as Banff National Park, the images from their wedding are moody, unique and breathtaking.
A quick drive home was in order for a wedding in Edmonton the next day with Erin Sweet Photography! Tanya and Gualberto's love story started in Portugal and ended 2 houses down the block from me! For real - our parents are neighbours! The pouring rain meant for an unexpected visit to my all time favourite place in the city, The Parlour where the managers welcomed us for a reprieve from the weather and some of the best food in the city! Highly recommend this little gem for any event. If you are thinking of having your wedding there, send me a message, I would love to chat!
Patricia and John’s Pigeon Lake wedding was an indie wedding dream! They were wed lakeside at their family cabin, with many tears, laughter and so much stunning light! During the ceremony, John signed adoption papers to officially welcome their little one into his arms and their wasn’t a dry eye in the house. They were also one of the most grateful and sweet couples I’ve ever worked with. Patricia was an unbelievably gorgeous bride, I just adored her stunning dress, handmade out of her mothers own wedding gown. And John's style didn't disappoint either! I love couples that do things 100% their own way.
September brought me back to Canmore and Banff, this time with the amazing Megan from Megan Kemshead Photography. We documented Natasha and Mikes small and intimate wedding at the Bear and Bison Inn and Iron Goat together and had so much fun exploring the mountains! Bear and Bison hit it out of the park again with this tapas family served meal! It’s one of my favourite venues.
The next day, before we left the mountains, we made a stop at Moraine Lake, Lake Louise and Canmore for an engagement session with Brie, Lars and their pup Wolfgang.
During Carleigh and Todd’s engagement session in St. Albert, we caught the last of the summer flowers and welcomed the fall season with their sunset session! We laughed so hard the entire time together. If their wedding next year is anything like their engagement session, I know it is going to be such a fun event!
This Camrose wedding with Ross and Jacqueline for Megan Kemshead Photography took country chic to a whole new level! With the absolutely stunning location of Ross’s beautiful family farmhouse garden, to the gorgeous prairie skies, we couldn’t have asked for a better day!
The following week I spent Friday photographing a wedding with Sarah Seinen from Starseed Photography at the Belvedere Golf & Country Club in Sherwood Park. Roxalana and Bryce's wedding was so beautiful and they are such a sweet couple - with all the intricate details and a stunning location, I was so thankful to have been there!
I highly recommend contacting Belvedere Golf & Country Club if you are looking for a local wedding venue!
Melissa and Steven took an afternoon with me in Pembina to create this bohemian hipster dream of an elopement. My favourite part however was the s’more and hotdogs on the beach!
October had me yet again on a plane, this time to San Diego. But first, I got to spend time with Meredith and Blaine in their backyard on Thanksgiving in Edmonton. I am so excited for their Banff wedding! They are my first wedding in 2018 and I just know it is going to be gorgeous!
Jaci and Eric flew me out to California for their intimate wedding! This bohemian elopement is insanely gorgeous - and can you believe that this was in Jaci’s parents BACK YARD? It gives me goosebumps! This elopement was for sure one of the highlights of the year. Eric and Jaci’s love for each other is so apparent and sweet, and Eric dotes on her and Jaci’s love for him was so moving to witness. I always lose it when grooms cry, but this time I wasn’t alone as there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. With a BDHL gown and a mix of estate sales and Anthropologie decor, this jewel toned wedding was fit to inspire any stylists heart.
The next day, we laughed, we cried, we hiked along the California shorelines and then went back to Universal Studio’s to explore Harry Potter World, drink all the butter beer, find our match in wands - and I may have snuck in a ride at the classic Jurassic Park tour too! Now that’s my idea of a perfect elopement.
Dear Joy, Chilton and their sweet little family met with me at the Red Deer Ravine for this session right before Halloween! Her boys Zion and Ezekiel are probably the cutest kids you will ever see! We had so much fun exploring in the forest together and I shot until the sun went down!!
I spent Halloween in Banff at the Fairmont Banff Springs for the JoyWed Fine Art Fall Workshop! It was such an amazing experience working with so many pros in the industry to create something so stunning! And this is one of those sessions I haven't been able to share yet - so enjoy this sneak peek!!
November I did a little road trip to Calgary to spend the day with Stephanie and Dylan and their pup Jack at their favourite park and coffee shop. I am so looking forward to their Whitefish wedding in March!
And with that I say goodbye to 2017. There are so many weddings and sessions I am leaving out of this post, and it's simply due to not having time today to go through the thousands of photos to find them! But each one has a special place in my heart and I can’t say thank you enough to all my amazing couples and all the friends I made this year. I’m blessed to know all of you! And a big thank you to each of the photographer’s that hired me to help them with their weddings this summer too! You all made the season my most exciting and busiest yet!
I can’t wait for more adventures and love in 2018! So far my wedding calendar is filling up quick and I’ll be traveling to Banff, Montana, Seattle, Oregon, Vancouver Island, Winnipeg, Drumheller and Jasper.
I can’t wait to meet the rest of my 2018 brides, meet more adventurous couples during my travels and tell more rad love stories through my lens. Be sure to reach out, I would love to talk to you.
Happy New Year Everyone!
